Apparel Design

A key aspect for events I have been involved in is apparel design, from concept ideation, artwork production to liaising with external printers.

Important lessons:

  • Knowledge of printing processes involving transfer type and colour awareness will always be beneficial. Is the black in your artwork an off grey, or is it #000000? Have you checked each colour used is strictly from your colour palette?

  • The key is to develop artwork that will translate on a wearable item. For example, if it’s a colder day that an event is held where people will be gathering, I would avoid keeping main imagery or messaging for the back of a t-shirt knowing it might likely be covered by a jacket. After all, promotional t-shirts will gain the traction of awareness if others can clearly see the messaging.

Event Promotion

Not only does event signage help shape the atmosphere of a space, it also clearly guides an audience. When designed with intention, they reinforce identity, provide wayfinding and elevate the overall experience.

When designing signs or banners for an event it’s crucial to ensure you are aware of the space each item will occupy – how far away would a person be until the text becomes illegible? Is a logo or artwork necessary on every item? What placement does the directional text on a banner need to have for a large crowd to view at all times?

It’s important each product has a purpose.
